About allergy

If you're worried that your child is allergic to something, it's important to visit your GP for a diagnosis. Allergy tests are available free on the NHS across the UK, for any age child. Getting an allergy test could help to identify what's causing the reaction in your child and it's easier to manage an allergy when you know exactly what's causing it.

Read about getting an allergy test.

An allergy is when the body's immune system reacts to something that is normally harmless. Many things can cause allergies such as pollens, foods, and house dust mites.

Allergic reactions vary a lot & can include sore throat, runny nose, red/itchy skin, sneezing and wheezing. Food allergies can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and constipation.

There's also some information in this section about a rare, severe form of allergy called anaphylaxis, which affected Haydn. Anaphylaxis tends to be triggered by food, insect stings or medicines.
